Bitcoin and ether looked set to end the week in positive territory

The number one cryptocurrency bitcoin was trading at $32,897.66 at 07:30 BST (UTC+1), a 1.47% fall on the day, but still up 0.26% compared to its price seven days ago.

Ethereum’s ether (ETH) remained the second most-traded cryptocurrency with a price of $2,119.01. That's a fall of 4.97% on the day, but it remains up 4.31% on the week. Meanwhile, tether was down 0.33% over the last 24 hours at $0.99.

Binance coin was also down, dropping $3.10 over the last 24 hours. It was trading up 10.72% over the last seven days at $310.01, however.

Cardano was trading at $1.33, down 3.39% on the day.

Speculation that ether could eclipse bitcoin intensified following the publication of a note by Goldman Sachs which appeared to endorse the cryptocurrency.

In the note obtained by Business Insider, the bank said ether: "currently looks like the cryptocurrency with the highest real use potential as Ethereum, the platform on which it is the native digital currency, is the most popular development platform for smart contract applications.”
