Crypto market update: Ethereum returns above $3,000

The cryptocurrency market cap continues to oscillate between $1.8trn and $1.9trn

The capitalisation of the total cryptocurrency market stood at $1.91trn (£1.42trn) at 14:00 (BST), according to CoinMarketCap, having momentarily plunged below $1.8trn in early-morning trading.

Bitcoin’s (BTC’s) dominance stood 0.7% higher than a week earlier, accounting for around 43% of the market, while Ethereum (ETH) accounted for 18.5%. 

BTC traded up by 5.3% at $43,430 according to Currency.com, having slumped to a week-long low of $40,757 during the previous 24 hours. The world’s first and largest cryptocurrency’s market capitalisation stood 3.4% higher at $818.2bn than 24 hours previously, while trading volume rose by 1.5% to $30.8bn. 

ETH’s market capitalisation also rose by 3.3% to $354.2bn, while trading volume jumped by 10.9% to $18.3bn. The second-largest cryptocurrency rose by 6.3% to $3,008, its first time above $3,000 in three days.

Among the other leading cryptocurrencies, Chainlink, Litecoin and Filecoin enjoyed the largest gains, rising by 2.7%, 2.6% and 3.4%, respectively. 

Biggest Gainer

Across the wider digital asset space, CryptoZoo enjoyed the largest gains, rising by 54,300% to $0.0001232. The non-fungible token (NFT) project on the Binance Smart Chain, which was launched last month by YouTuber Logan Paul, has seen a 164% rise in trading volume to $3.1m. 

Ultimately, however, the project has slumped by 89.4% from the $0.0011720 all-time high it enjoyed at the start of September. 

Biggest Loser

Cybertronchain (CTC) suffered the largest loss, falling by 50% to $4.83. Its market capitalisation also halved, falling to $482.9m. The token for the crypto-backed Point-of-sale and Cashback system now stands 96% below the $124.69 all-time high it enjoyed shortly after its launch.
