Currency.com awarded high security rating in independent audit

Currency.com has been given a “high security” rating after an independent assessment by Hacken, one of the cybersecurity industry’s best-known consulting companies.

Currency.com awarded high security rating in independent audit

On a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being the most secure, our platform was given a score of 9.

Testing took place from 1-11 September, and two penetration testers were tasked with uncovering security and business risks in the company’s infrastructure – detecting technical and functional vulnerabilities, assessing their severity, and establishing how malicious actors may attempt to launch an attack.

To ensure that this testing could take place without disrupting Currency.com’s operations as a whole, client data was kept confidential and no denial of service attacks waswere used.

Hacken categorizses the risks it uncovers into three main categories. They are:

  •  High: These vulnerabilities are easy to exploit and can provide an attacker with full control of affected systems, potentially resulting in “significant data loss or downtime”
  • Medium: These vulnerabilities are harder to exploit, and would not provide malicious actors with the same levels of access to compromised systems
  • Low: These vulnerabilities could help an attacker to uncover information that would benefit them in conducting subsequent attacks, with Hacken saying “exploitation is difficult, or impact is minimal”

The cybersecurity company found that Currency.com had no high- security risks. One vulnerability fell into the medium category, while six were classified as low.

“Based on our understanding of the environment, as well as the nature of the vulnerabilities discovered, their exploitability, and the potential impact we have assessed the level of risk for your organization to be low,” Hacken’s report concluded.

Victor Pergament, the head of product at Currency.com said: “For us, the Hacken report is the vindication of our efforts to constantly improve security for our users. It's Currency.com's ambition to offer an experience that other trading platforms can't match. We're a firm believer in transparency, and that's why we wanted a credible cybersecurity company to put our infrastructure through its paces.”

Security at trading platforms has been a hot-button topic of late. Over the years, several cryptocurrency exchanges have fallen victim to high-profile hack attacks where customer funds have been affected. Hacken’s high- security rating for Currency.com will help give users peace of mind that their trades will be executed quickly and with little disruption – with a range of safeguards in place to keep critical infrastructure insulated from the outside world.

Robust security and compliance have long been Currency.com’s top priorities – alongside unrivalled trading power and speed, as well as competitive and open pricing.

Our approach has led to a series of awards over the years. We were named the best cryptocurrency exchange in the CIS at the Blockchain Life Awards in 2019, and were recognizsed with a breakthrough in cryptocurrency trading honour at the ADVFN International Financial Awards in 2020.
