Salesforce Blockchain hopes to help prevent fake Lamborghinis
Luxury car group Lamborghini is using a blockchain platform to provide second-hand vehicles with an immutable record of service.
At present, when a Lamborghini is resold, it has to go through up to 1,000 certification checks at the headquarters in Italy, to ensure it’s the real deal, the company said. This involves a vast network of resources, from auction houses to dealerships, and repair shops to media sources, who help verify the car’s history.
The new process, with 0'>Salesforce Blockchain, will allow each vehicle’s service record is completely trustworthy, since its distributed ledger will include details of any parts, restoration and previous owners – preventing counterfeiting.
“Innovation has been at the core of our company since its founding,” said Paolo Gabrielli, head of after sales at Automobili Lamborghini. “Salesforce Blockchain will allow us to take our innovation a step further, accelerating the authenticity of our heritage vehicles faster than ever.”
Salesforce launched its blockchain platform in May. Based on Hyperledger Sawtooth, a platform for running distributed ledgers, it allows users to create and share a blockchain with clicks, rather than needing to write code.
