Billionaire Mike Bloomberg prepares to enter Democratic presidential primary
The former mayor of New York is considering taking on Trump
Billionaire Mike Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York, is considering entering the Democratic presidential primary, NBC News wrote.
According to several aides, Bloomberg, aged 77, is not yet sure about his participation, but he is now considering the option of participating in the presidential race.
Kevin Sheekey, the global heat of communications at Bloomberg L.P, confirmed that the billionaire is now collecting signatures in Alabama.
His spokesman Howard Wolfson revealed that Bloomberg's major concern is that the Democrat candidates are not strong enough to defeat president Donald Trump.
"We now need to finish the job and ensure that Trump is defeated — but Mike is increasingly concerned that the current field of candidates is not well-positioned to do that," Wolfson claimed.
The spokesman also stated that Bloomberg's wealth allows him not to worry about the fundraising challenges that concern other candidates.
Michael Bloomberg holds the ninth position in Forbes' Richest People in the World List, with his net worth over $55.5bn (€50.2bn, £44.33bn). In the US, he is currently the sixth richest man.
The 2020 US presidential election is scheduled for November 3, 2020. There are currently 17 Democrats and four Republicans running for president. The list of the candidates includes Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders.
