Apple’s Legendary Designer Jony Ive Leaves Company to Launch Own Business

By Yana Berman

Apple’s chief design officer Jony Ive is leaving the tech giant to start his own design company, according to the company’s official announcement published on Thursday, June 27.

According to Apple, Ive is set to leave by the end of 2019 to start his own business called LoveFrom. The new design company will have Apple as its first client at the beginning of 2020.

Following the news of Ive’s departure, Apple’s stocks saw a mild decline of 1% on Thursday, trading at $199.74 at the close.

Jony Ive started working at Apple in 1992. In 1996, when Steve Jobs returned to Apple, Ive became responsible for the visual appearance of core Apple products. His first major work was the iMac G3 in 1998. iPod, iPhone, and iPad, designed by Ive, became iconic products for the corporation.

In 2013, shortly after Jobs passed away, Ive worked on a core redesign of iOS, resulting in a very distinct iOS 7. The look of Apple Watch, launched in 2015, also belongs to Ive.
