Amazon and Disney clash as Disney+ prepares for launch

Amazon & Disney at loggerheads

Amazon is currently in fierce negotiations with Disney for the ability to sell a substantial percentage of ad space on Disney apps on its Fire TV service, the Wall Street Journal reports.

If the dispute is not resolved then its apps could be removed from the second-largest distributor of streaming TV apps. These apps range from ABC, the Disney Channel and ESPN.

The negotiations play into the ongoing uncertainty as to whether Fire TV will carry Disney's new streaming platform, Disney+.

Major corporations have raced to catch up with Netflix. The online streaming service has changed the media landscape.

Disney's new service will feature original content, including a major Star Wars television series entitled 'The Mandalorian'.

Apple is also launching a streaming service in the coming months called AppleTV+. This service will offer original content with productions starring Steve Carrell, Jennifer Aniston and Jason Mamoa.

People familiar with the Disney-Amazon situation observed that the dispute is not as acrimonious as a traditional cable-carriage dispute. Spokeswomen for Amazon and Disney declined to comment.

Although a deal with Amazon has not materialised yet, Disney has said that Disney+ will be available to stream on Apple TV, Android devices, Chromecast, iPads and iPhones, PS4, Roku, and Xbox One.
