Bitmain opens 25MW cryptocurrency mining facility in Texas

Bitmain, the industry fabless manufacturer of computing chips, has opened a 50MW mining farm in Rockdale, Texas.

Construction of the initial 25 megawatt mining farm, on a 33,000 acre site owned by the Aluminum Company of America, Alcoa, began in 2018.

Bitmain will continue to construct the 50MW facility, which can expand to a capacity of more than 300MW.

The cryptocurrency mining farm in Texas, completed using a newly developed design patent, is the third cryptocurrency mine project investment by Bitmain in the US.

The new mining facility has been established by Bitmain with an aim to make it the largest mining facility in the world.

The project had been completed together with the Rockdale Municipal Development District and Canadian technology firm DMG Blockchain Solutions.

DMG, which will provide hosting and management services for the Texas facility, will work together with Bitmain to expand the capacity and to ensure efficient operations of Bitmain’s mining hardware.

To power the project, Bitmain is purchasing energy directly from the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which operates the electric grid in Rockdale.

Bitmain also has plans to work with the local school district to provide education and training on blockchain technology and mining data centre operations.
