42% of blockchain employees work for crypto exchanges

Almost half of those working in the blockchain industry are employed by cryptocurrency exchanges, research shows.

Industry-focused publication The Block revealed that 42 per cent of people at 158 analysed blockchain and cryptocurrency companies work for digital currency exchanges. About 7,700 people combined worked at 30 different exchanges.

Out of the 158 companies analysed, the largest employer is Bitmain with 1,500 employees, followed by  Huobi (1,300), Coinbase (1,000) and OKEx (950). Binance and Ripple employ around 650 and 450 respectively.

Next come crypto mining equipment producers, comprising 10 per cent of blockchain industry employees.

The Block’s research also showed that at least 50 companies in the blockchain industry currently employs more than 100 people.

Blockchain is one of the top ten most important employee skills in the Asia Pacific region, a new report from LinkedIn showed in June.
