Malaysia gets $4 a month mobile-only Netflix plan
Under the mobile plan Malaysian users will have access to Netflix’s entire local and international catalogue
Netflix has launched a new mobile plan in Malaysia in which members will be able to watch all of Netflix’s content with no interruptions or ads in standard definition on one smartphone or tablet at a time.
The first mobile plan in south-east Asia costs RM17 ($4) a month. It gives users access to Netflix’s entire local and international catalogue with cancellation allowed at any time, and parental controls to make informed viewing choices for families, the US online film and TV streaming service said.
Malaysians now have four plans to choose from, in addition to the existing Basic, Standard and Premium.
Netflix continues to improve the mobile experience with features such as smart downloads, mobile previews, adaptive UI and sharing to social media.
As of 2019, 88 per cent of Malaysians own smartphones with online entertainment increasing in popularity.
According to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) 2018 Internet Users Survey, 78 per cent of Malaysia’s internet users spent time streaming and downloading entertainment.
Netflix members in Malaysia already watch twice as much content on their phones as the average member, Netflix said.
