Amazon launches portable Echo device in India
Amazon intends to bring new portable Echo device that has launched exclusively in India to other markets in the future
is bringing portable Echo devices to India, a new variant addressing one of the “most requested features” from customers in the country.
Designed exclusively for customers in India, the Echo Input Portable Smart Speaker Edition will enclose a 4,800mAh battery and will offer up to 10 hours of continuous music playing or up to 11 hours of stand-by life.
The company said the Echo Input Portable Smart Speaker Edition shares the same “hardware architecture” as the Echo Input, a device it launched last year that does not feature a speaker.
The new device will offer the same features as other Echo variants including access to some 30,000 Alexa skills, compatibility with a range of home devices and support for Alexa voice assistant.
It will also have four LEDs that light up when a user taps the power button to show battery level.
It is priced at INR 5,999 ($84) or for an introductory price of INR 4,999 ($70). The device will begin shipping on December 18.
Amazon said they intend to bring this new speaker to other markets eventually.
In September, Amazon India introduced other echo variants including the all new Echo, Echo Dot with clock, and Echo Studio devices.
They joined Echo Dot, Echo Plus, Echo Show, Echo Show 5, and Echo companion devices – Echo Sub, Echo Link, Echo Link Amp – to create the Echo family of devices.
Alexa also became multilingual with customers able to switch between English and Hindi when talking to Alexa which is a useful feature in Indian households where users speak both Hindi and English.
