Burger King in Venezuela starts first Bitcoin payments

By Ramla Soni

A total of 40 Burger King locations in the Latin American country will follow suit in 2020

A Burger King branch in the Sambil area of Caracas in Venezuela now accepts Bitcoin, along with altcoins Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Binance Coin (BNB) and Dash (DASH), as well as stablecoin Tether (USDT).

According to a blog post from Dash executives about the move, a total of 40 locations will follow suit in 2020.

Dash, a cryptocurrency for payments and e-commerce, has announced a new partnership with Cryptobuyer, a platform to buy and sell cryptocurrencies in Latin America.

Through the Cryptobuyer platform, Burger King restaurants in Venezuela will now accept Dash payments.

Cryptobuyer is a Panama-based cryptocurrency merchant gateway startup that also runs Bitcoin ATMs. It offers conversion of cryptocurrency funds for businesses, which it then pays out in fiat currency.

Dash usage continues growing at a rapid rate in Venezuela, as it provides an alternative that is a more reliable payment method and store of value. We are happy to collaborate with Cryptobuyer to keep growing the Dash ecosystem and serve Burger King and its customers,” said Ryan Taylor, Dash Core Group CEO.

Around 1,000 verified merchants in Venezuela already accept Dash at point of sale.

Burger King has been training its teams and stores during the past weeks and will slowly roll out Dash payments into all stores in Venezuela, with plans to also accept the other cryptocurrencies in Cryptobuyer’s portfolio.
