Toikido to bundle NFT with plush toys
The company has secured global rights for its NFT from Reality Gaming Group and Herotainment
Toikido announced on Tuesday, 7 September that it has secured global rights from Reality Gaming Group and Herotainment to create Smighties toys and merchandise that will be bundled together with non-fungible token (NFT) collectables, bringing the world of physical toys and NFTs together for the first time.
According to the London-based toys and entertainment merchandise operator, the Smighties toys are expected to be available globally from April 2022. Each Smighties toy will come bundled with a QR code directing its owner to the online portal for Smighties Universe, “a blockchain-fuelled experience where fans can collect digital versions of their favourite Smighties characters”.
Owners of Toikido’s Smighties toys will be able to claim a free NFT based on one of the hundreds of Smighties Universe characters, the company explained.
NFT together with plush toys
As the operator explained, the NFT/toy bundle will initially be limited to plush toys, but will be extended further to other toys later on.
“This partnership represents Toikido’s entry into the exciting world of NFTs. Toikido’s initial Smighties product line-up will include, but will not be limited to, plush, collectables and trading cards. It will then expand into other core categories globally,” explained the company.
Each Smighties character in the Smighties Universe would be tokenised into an NFT, entirely owned by collectors, and then secured and protected on the blockchain by providing documented ownership indefinitely.
“Moreover, Smighties Universe digital collectables are one of a kind and cannot be copied, which makes them scarce and potentially valuable. There are over 136 unique characters to collect with different attributes, powers and strengths. Each Smighty can also be categorised by their element and by their rarity, including epic ones”, claimed the company.
Launch plan comments
“Our thinking on this (the NFT launch) is like Beanie Babies and Pokémon – we expect the merchandise to be embraced by all ages. Our launch plan is global, starting with North America in early 2022,” explained Toikido’s founder and CEO, Darran Garnham.
Garnham added: “The expansion of digital IP into physical products is a key focus for Toikido. We have been following the NFT space closely for some time, and believe it will shape innovation in gaming, entertainment, sport, trading and collectability, and even more in the coming years.”
