Uber culls another 350 employees in ‘last wave’ of company cuts

The ride-hailing company let go of hundreds more workers in its third round of staff cuts

Uber has laid off around 350 employees in what it says is its final wave of company cuts.

The redundancies are the third round of layoffs, which began earlier this year. Employees affected are from several teams in the company, including Eats, Global Rides and Platform, performance marketing, Advanced Technologies Group and recruiting. Some have also been asked to relocate.

Over 70 per cent of the employees impacted are based in the US and Canada, with the rest from across Asia Pacific, Latin America and EMEA.

These cuts account for about 1 per cent of the company and follow the loss of 435 product and engineering employees last month, and 400 people from marketing.

In an email to employees, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi acknowledged “days like today are tough for us all” and promised they would do all they can to prevent further job losses.

“We all have to play a part by establishing a new normal in how we work: identifying and eliminating duplicate work, upholding high standards for performance, giving direct feedback and taking action when expectations aren’t being met, and eliminating the bureaucracy that tends to creep as companies grow,” he told Uber staff.
