Mixed martial arts organisation Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Crypto.com, its official cryptocurrency platform partner, have announced a Fan Bonus of the Night that will be paid to UFC athletes in bitcoin (BTC).

The Fan Bonus of the Night will feature three BTC bonuses that will be awarded to the top three fighters at each UFC pay-per-view event. The chosen fighters will be decided by fans voting from all around the globe.

The BTC prize will range from $30,000 (£23,000) for first place, $20,000 (£15,336) for second place and $10,000 (£7,668) for third place with the bonuses paid in BTC based on the exchange rate to US dollars at the time.

The BTC bonus will be awarded in addition to the Fight of the Night and Performance bonuses awarded to UFC athletes by Dana White, president of UFC, at the end of each event.

BTC bonuses unveiled at upcoming bout

The Fan Bonus of the Night will be introduced at UFC 273: Volkanovski vs The Korean Zombie, which takes place on Saturday 9 April at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, and features Alexander Volkanovski fighting Jung Chan-sung.

Fans will be able to vote for which UFC athlete they believe should be awarded the BTC bonus by visiting Crypto.com/FanBonus. Each fan will be given three votes per pay-per-view and can vote for two fighters in each bout.

The voting for each fight will open at the start of the pay-per-view prelims and will end an hour after the fight finishes.

The BTC bonus is an ‘awesome way to engage fans’

UFC president White said: “Crypto.com has been an official UFC partner for less than a year, and I’m telling you they are already one of the best partners we’ve ever had. They’re constantly coming up with new ideas about how we can work together to connect with the fans. This new Fan Bonus of the Night is an awesome way to get fans more engaged in our events while rewarding the fighters for bad-ass performances.”

Steven Kalifowitz, chief marketing officer of Crypto.com, said: “Central to our partnership with UFC is creating the most unique and compelling ways for fans to connect with the sport and their favourite athletes. We are thrilled for this next step in our partnership with UFC and excited to build even more innovative and engaging experiences as our partnership continues."
