US online electronic retailer to accept Shiba Inu as payment
This makes Shiba Inu the fourth crypto Newegg will accept
Newegg, an American online retailer of items including computer hardware and consumer electronics has announced it will be accepting payments in Shiba Inu (SHIB).
Newegg tweeted on 30 November, that by “early December” they will be accepting SHIB. The company state they will be accepting the crypto “just in time for the holidays”.
The company have advertised this news using a “massive” digital out-of-home (DOOH) campaign displayed at The Reef in Los Angeles, North America’s largest DOOH billboard.
To allow this new form of payment, Newegg has partnered with BitPay, a bitcoin payment service provider.
Andrew Choi, director of brand marketing at Newegg said: “We are always looking for ways to innovate the shopping experience on Newegg.com, and something our customers want is greater flexibility and options, including the ability to pay with a wide range of cryptocurrencies. Through our partnership with BitPay, we can move quickly and lead the market with flexible cryptocurrency payment options. To that end, we’re excited to offer SHIB as a payment option on Newegg.com.”
Not the first crypto Newegg accepts
This not the first crypto Newegg has unveiled it will accept as payment. The electronics retailer announced in 2014 it will accept bitcoin as payment. Newegg was the first major ecommerce company to accept the lead crypto. Then in early 2021 it started to accept dogecoin (DOGE) and in July of the same year litecoin (LTC).
Newegg’s partnership with BitPay allows it to accept the various cryptos as payment.
Newegg to start accepting SHIB by early December “further cements Newegg.com as a preferred destination for online shoppers who want to pay with cryptocurrency.”
SHIB vs DOGE
Despite Newegg accepting both SHIB and DOGE, SHIB describes itself as the “DOGECOIN KILLER”.
According to CoinMarketCap, SHIB “was created anonymously in August 2020 under the pseudonym ‘Ryoshi’.”
