Despite the market falling away somewhat in 2022, play-to-earn games are still a pretty big deal. Axie Infinity is one of the biggest ones out there and its Axie Infinity (AXS) token is still reasonably popular, despite a massive hack that saw attackers steal $625m worth of tokens. While the attack happened in March 2022, it was not until late June that full service was restored.
But what might happen in the future? What will Axie Infinity be worth in 2025? Let’s take a look at the system, how the token has behaved in the past, and look at the Axie Infinity price prediction for 2025, too.
What is Axie Infinity?
First off, let’s explain what Axie Infinity is. It is a game, created by Vietnamese company Sky Mavis, in which people compete by battling to collect individual cards representing cartoon monsters. These creatures, called Axies, fight each other, with the winner getting rewards.
The rewards take the form of the two native tokens of the Axie Infinity game: Axie Infinity Shards (AXS), more commonly known as Axie Infinity, and Smooth Love Potion (SLP). AXS is the rarer crypto, therefore it is more valuable. The cards are all individual non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and they can be bought, sold and traded on the game’s marketplace.
As the crypto’s whitepaper says: “Axie Infinity Shards (AXS) are an ERC-20 governance token for the Axie Universe. AXS holders will be able to claim rewards if they stake their tokens, play the game, and participate in key governance votes.
“Players will also be able to earn AXS when they play various games within the Axie Infinity Universe and through user-generated content initiatives.”
According to the site, the goal of Axie Infinity is “to align the incentives between the players of the game and the developers in novel and exciting ways”.
Axie Infinity price history
Let’s take a look at the Axie Infinity price history over the last year or so. While past performance is never any indicator of future results, knowing what the token has done can help us if we want answer the question – “what will AXS coin be worth in 2025?”
AXS saw a spike in April 2021 as the game migrated from Ethereum to Ronin, an Ethereum-linked sidechain made specifically for Axie Infinity. Since then, axies have been bred, bought and sold on Ronin. AXS gameplay rewards are also claimed on the sidechain. As a result of the blockchain migration, the AXS price went up, reaching an intraday high of $10.85 on 28 April.
The price dipped to around the $4 mark in May and June 2021, as the token was hit by the Great Crypto Day Crash of 19 May 2021, but recovered in July, with AXS closing 15 July at $23.96. The upward trend then carried on throughout the rest of the month, climbing above the $40 level on 23 July 2021 and hitting a daily high of $53.28 on 27 July.
On 10 August, the day an update designed to stop SLP becoming too expensive was launched, the AXS price shot up from $43.52 to close at $64.05. The price kept rising for the rest of the month and reached $72.20 on 31 August 2021.
On 30 September, the network launched its staking function, which allows users to earn AXS rewards, as well as voting rights on the game’s future and the community treasury, by staking their AXS. This update saw the price jump from a closing price of $74.51 on 30 September 2021 to close the next day, 1 October, at $110.54.
The bullish trend did not halt for the next few months. In early November, Sky Mavis launched Katana, a decentralised exchange for Ronin. At launch, users were able to trade between AXS, SLP, USD coin (USDC) and wrapped ether (WETH). It proved a success – on 5 November 2021, the day after it launched, the price closed above the $150 mark.
On 6 November 2021, the price reached an all-time high of $165.37, as the token surged on a market buoyed by bitcoin reaching new heights. By the end of the year, with the market sliding down, it was worth $93.30.

It continued to fall and on 25 January 2022 the Axie Infinity price saw a low of $49.58. After that, though, the coin went upwards. Another update went live on 25 January, and AXS reached a $55.47 high the following day.
In February, Sky Mavis said it would be relaunching the game under the name Axie Infinity: Origin. It announced on 11 February that it would be releasing the update in phases, starting at the end of the first quarter of 2022.
The early access version of the update went live on 7 April, but the market was, ultimately, unimpressed. The cryptocurrency saw a slight peak of $71.18 on 24 March, but stooped to $38.24 on 26 April. The slump followed an attack on the Ronin blockchain, with hackers walking away with $625m worth of cryptocurrencies.
There was worse to come, with the after-effects of the depegging of the UST stablecoin and the collapse of the associated LUNA cryptocurrency seeing the token sink to a low of $17.16 on 11 May. After that, though, there was some recovery, with the crypto closing the month at $23.70 following the unveiling and implementation of new features to its Origin update. These included tweaks to its user interface and arena gameplay, according to a blog post.
June was another poor month for crypto, with the cancellation of withdrawals on the Celsius platform confirming the bear market, and AXS fell to a low of $11.92 on 18 June. After that, there was a recovery to $18.46 on 25 June. Despite the news that the system was back to full operation following March’s hack, the price could not avoid a drop and, on 30 June 2022, it was trading at around $13.45. At that time, there were a little over 82 million AXS in circulation out of a total supply of 270 million. This gave the token a market cap of about $1.1m, making it the 42nd largest crypto overall and the fifth largest metaverse token.
Axie infinity price prediction for 2025
With that out of the way, let’s take a look at what some forecasters are giving as their AXS price prediction for 2025. It is important to note that, due to the volatile nature of cryptocurrency, most crypto price predictions often end up being wrong. Also, it is worth pointing out that longer-term crypto forecasts are often made using an algorithm, which means they can change at a moment’s notice.
First, PricePrediction says that AXS should start 2025 at around $62.17. It should spend the year on an upward trajectory, hitting $72.07 in June before closing the year at an average of $86.87.
Next, DigitalCoinPrice has an AXS price prediction for 2025 that says the token should be worth $29.06 in January, before dipping to $23.38 in April. There will then be some peaks and troughs, and axie infinity should close the year at $23.91.
Meanwhile, CoinPriceForecast says that the token should start 2025 at around $42.78, before it goes up by more than 20% to $52.61 in the middle of the year. It will then drop, though, and close the year down a little under 9% from where it was six months earlier at $47.99.
Finally, Gov Capital is super-bullish, arguing that AXS will be worth just under $740.41 at the start 2025, before moving to a little under $896.80 on 1 June 2025 and closing the year at about $1,168.04.
Final thoughts
A couple of things to point out before we finish. First, metaverse and NFT coins have significantly underperformed as a whole against the market this year so far. Even before the market turmoil caused by UST’s depegging, coins and tokens in those spheres were down significantly. As one of the leading metaverse and play-to-earn games, AXS’s poor performance in 2022 is symptomatic of the sphere as a whole. We do not know how long the metaverse slump will last or if and when axie infinity will break out of it.
Second, Axie Infinity first made headlines in 2020, when following a report that an unspecified number of people in the Philippines were supplementing their incomes by an unspecified amount by playing Axie Infinity.
The problem with this was that the piece – which piqued people’s interest at the time but was, ultimately, soon forgotten as the cryptocurrency world refused to stand still – was written by the director of a consulting firm that represents play-to-earn games in the Asia Pacific region. This may cause some to ponder just how far the initial spark behind Axie Infinity’s growth was buoyed by PR campaigns. Ultimately, there are still some unanswered questions as to how big Axie Infinity truly is, and whether it can regain its value by 2025.
As ever with cryptocurrency, you will need to do your own research, remember prices can go down as well as up, and never invest more money than you can afford to lose.
FAQs
Can Axie Infinity reach $1,000?
There is nothing to say that it won’t do, but that day might be far away. While the often-bullish Gov Capital says that it will do so in 2025, other sites are far more cautious. Keep in mind that metaverse tokens have been underperforming in 2022, and remember to exercise caution.
Does Axie Infinity have a future?
It could do, although what sort of future that will be is anyone’s guess. If you want to invest in AXS, you will have to conduct your own research, never invest more than you can comfortably afford to lose and bear in mind that prices can go down as well as up.
