Bitbuy, a Canadian crypto exchange has announced National Basketball Association (NBA) star Kyle Lowry as its brand ambassador and features in their new Super Bowl 2022 advert.

The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL). The ad is about “missed opportunities” and pokes fun at the Miami Heat player and claim he has missed over “6,000 shots in his career”.

The ad states “do not be like Kyle and miss your opportunity again and again and again and again and again and again and again.”

The ad explains that so many “Canadians wish they bought tech stocks or real estate, just 10 years ago” to which Lowry responds, “it’s happening here with crypto”.

Lowry and his NFTs

In June 2021 Lowry released his #ThroughMyEyes non-fungible tokens (NFTs) which could be purchased on MakersPlace with credit cards or crypto.

The Miami Heat player said he wanted the NFTs to be a gift to his fans. In order to produce the NFTs, Lowry collaborated with Corbin Portillo, a Canadian artist who is a senior graphic designer at Dapper Labs, the company behind NBA Top Shots, the official NFTs for NBA players.

Another Miami Heat player warned of crypto ads during the Super bowl

On the 2 February, Binance, currently the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, released a teaser ad featuring another Miami Heat player, Jimmy Butler.

In the ad, the Miami Heat player advises people not to listen to celebrities when they tell you to invest in cryptos.

The full ad campaign is set to release on the 7 February. In the teaser, Butler warns the audience that on 13 February, the day of The Super Bowl, “you are going to hear some of the biggest names telling you to get into crypto”.

Butler goes on to say that the celebrities endorsing crypto in these adverts do not “know you or your finances, only you do”.

The NBA player further elaborates: “Bianance and I are here to tell you, trust yourself and, of course, do your own research, be on the lookout before the game.”

Binance said it has chosen celebrities for its ad campaign that are known for their honesty and independence.
