Disney’s streaming service Disney+ launches in the Netherlands, US and Canada

Line-up includes original content and the service costs $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year

Disney’s streaming service, Disney+ has officially launched in the Netherlands, the US and Canada after an initial test in the Netherlands.

The service will have a lineup of original content that includes the first episode of the very first live action Star Wars series, “The Mandalorian”, the first 30 seasons of “The Simpsons” and movies of the major hubs focusing on the franchises owned by Disney, such as Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and National Geographic.

Disney highlights include all the animated classics, from Snow White to Moana. They also include live-action favourites like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Flubber and High School Musical.

Disney+ is available on the web, iOS, Android, Roku, various smart TVs and Amazon Fire TV, all for $6.99 (£5.45, €6.34) a month or $69.99 per year.

There is a seven-day free trial, amongst other options like for those who want to add ESPN+ and Hulu (with ads) to the subscription, which is available for $12.99 a month.

Disney expects to spend $1 billion on original content during the service’s first year, with that number increasing to $2.5 billion by its 2024 fiscal year.

Disney+ is set to launch in every major region within the next two years, the Evening Standard reported, with New Zealand and Australia gaining access next week and the platform reaching UK screens on 31 March 2020.
