Emirates buys 39 Boeing 787-9 jets worth $8.8 billion
Following the $16 billion Airbus A350 order, Emirates’ aircraft orders this week now valued at $24.8 billion
Emirates has signed a full-purchase agreement for 30 0'>Boeing 787-9 aircraft, worth $8.8 billion (£6.7bn, €8bn).
The deal includes Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with deliveries starting in May 2023 and continuing for five years.
For the 777X, Emirates will enter into discussions with Boeing on the status of deliveries over the coming weeks. This deal takes Emirates’ total order with Boeing to 126 Boeing 777X aircraft.
Including the recent $16 billion 0'>Airbus A350 order it takes the total value of Emirates’ firm aircraft commitments at this week’s 2019 Dubai Airshow to $24.8 billion.
The airline giant has exercised its right to substitute 777X Boeing aircrafts for 787s.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Emirates chairman and chief executive, said the purchase is an “important investment”. He said it is “an addition to our future fleet and network requirements, providing us the agility, flexibility and spread of seat segments when it comes to overall capacity to serve a range of destinations as we develop and grow our global route network”.

Emirates is the leading buyer of the Airbus A380, the world’s largest airliner, with 123 of the planes in its fleet.
