FC Legia Warsaw now has an official NFT agency
The move has been described as “a watershed moment in European football”
Legia Warsaw – a Polish football team that plays in the Ekstraklasa, the top tier of Polish football – has formed a partnership with Capital Block, the only dedicated sports and entertainment non-fungible token (NFT) agency.
In doing so, Legia Warsaw has become the first European football club to have an official NFT agency.
Legia Warsaw is said to be “the most successful Polish football club in history”. The club’s track record includes 15 Ekstraklasa championship titles, a record 19 Polish Cups and four Polish Super Cup trophies.
Numerous other football clubs have partnerships with crypto platforms. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), for instance, made Crypto.com its first official cryptocurrency partner, while in December, Crystal Palace FC became the sixth Premier League team to sign up to a partnership with Chiliz, the blockchain provider for the sports industry, and launch a Fan Token on fan engagement and reward app Socios.com.
However, said Capital Block, no other European football team has “an official NFT partner which is advising them on NFT strategy and which platforms to put those NFTs on”.
NFT market “significantly untapped”
As Legia Warsaw’s official NFT agency, Capital Block will be responsible for identifying, creating and building a clear NFT strategy for the Polish club.
Capital Block will also be responsible for identifying assets that can be created as NFTs, growing Legia Warsaw’s NFT community, helping fans understand NFTs, and advising what NFT platforms and marketplaces Legia Warsaw should partner with.
Capital Block believes that the NFT market is “significantly untapped” by football clubs, as they are “struggling” to understand the NFT landscape and overcome the challenge of how to make NFTs relevant to fans.
Under the terms of the deal, the NFT agency will become an official sponsor of Legia Warsaw.
“A watershed moment”
Tim Mangnall, CEO of Capital Block, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Legia Warsaw and enabling its fans to get even closer to the club they love through NFTs. Legia has recognised the need for a long-term, well-thought-out NFT strategy to build an engaged community of passionate football fans.
“We’ll now get working on NFTs that mark and represent some of the most iconic players and moments in the club’s history, as well as ensuring that Legia NFTs have utility to its fans – that these NFTs help them get closer to their club.
“This should be a watershed moment in European football. Legia Warsaw is the first and currently only European club with an official NFT agency: every other football club on the continent is now behind the Polish league champions. Every club around the world needs to have a NFT strategy in place for the long term, and we look forward to helping many of these clubs and teams connect with their fans through NFTs.”
Paweł Kokosza, commercial director of Legia Warsaw, said: “We believe that this partnership with Capital Block will help us further unlock the potential of the most popular sports brand in this part of Europe, which Legia Warsaw undoubtedly is. For us, it is once again a pioneering step in our commercial development and as we explore and commit to new areas of modern business.”
