Footballer Neymar Jr buys two Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs
Brazilian footballer changed his Twitter profile picture to one of the BAYC NFTs he bought

Two Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have been snapped up by Brazilian footballer Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, known as Neymar, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and the Brazilian national team.
The footballer tweeted a picture of his BAYC NFT, Bored Ape 6633, purchased for 159.99 Ethereum (ETH), or $449,739, which is a pink ape outfitted with flashy futuristic glasses.
He also bought Ape 5269, which is an ape with lasers coming out of his eyes. Adding red laser eyes to a Twitter profile picture, is a trend among bitcoin bulls who believe the lead crypto will continue to soar in price.
Ape 5269 was bought by Neymar Jr for 189.69 ETH ($533,228) – so the player spent $982,967 (£725,000) on his two BAYC NFTs.
Neymar Jr has an account with OpenSea, the world’s largest marketplace for NFTs, called EneJay, that he used to purchase the NFTs. He has since changed his Twitter profile picture to Ape 6633.

Tennis star Serena’s in the pink with BAYC
Serena Williams, the US professional tennis player who has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, also bought a BAYC NFT recently as well. Her BAYC NFT is of a pink ape with tears in its eyes. The tennis star’s Twitter profile picture is an NFT, but not the BAYC one.
Her husband and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian wore an NFT from the CryptoPunks collection on his lapel, which depicted his wife, at the 2021 Met Gala in New York. Since then, Williams has changed her Twitter display picture to the Serena Williams NFT.
Williams also became a board adviser to Sorare, the French NFT football trading card game developer on the 20 January, the same day she bought her BAYC NFT.
Williams’s role as an adviser will see her provide guidance to Sorare’s board on topics including the company’s relationship with athletes, Sorare’s strategies to expand into new sports categories – with a focus on women’s sports – and initiatives on making Web3 more inclusive and diverse.
