Norwegian Air and JetBlue announce transatlantic partnership

By Philip Smith

Seamless connecting flights between 100 American and 20 European destinations after tie-up

Debt-troubled Norwegian Air and New York-based JetBlue Airways have agreed a partnership linking the two carriers’ routes.

Norwegian operates from 20 sites across Europe and flies to major US hub airports at New York, Boston and Fort Lauderdale. JetBlue operates across the US, Caribbean and South America with flights from some 100 cities.

“Customers will have the possibility to book connecting flights on both airlines’ websites by combining the best of our complementary and expansive networks,” the airlines said, quoted by Reuters.

Norwegian already has a European partnership with London Gatwick-based EasyJet but until now lacked a US partner.

The arrangement will come into effect in the middle of 2020.

Norwegian Air, Europe’s third-largest budget carrier, has been left with high debts after rapid expansion and is seeking to reduce costs and boost income.

JetBlue Airways sees the partnership as a way to break into the low-fare, transatlantic travel market.
