Socios.com – the fan-engagement and reward app used and created by Chiliz, the global blockchain provider for the sports industry – has become the official partner of the 2021 Ballon d’Or Award.

The Ballon d’Or is an annual football award presented by French news magazine France Football. It is regarded as one of the oldest and most prestigious awards for individual football players to receive.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the award was cancelled last year, however, the 2021 Ballon d’Or is set to take place tonight (29 November) at the gala Chatelet Theatre in Paris, starting from 7.30pm GMT. Eurosport will be livestreaming the event.

The Ballon d’Or was originally created in 1956 to honour the best footballer in Europe; since 2007, it has been expanded to become a global award.

Socios.com will have brand visibility on the red carpet for the event, where the ceremony will take place on the banks of the River Seine.

Socios.com will also host two photobooths at the event, where 750 guests who attend the ceremony will be able to take a picture with the Ballon d’Or trophy and be given the chance to win a Fan Token from one of Socios.com’s 100+ sporting partners.

Socios.com partners include leading European football teams FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), Juventus, AC Milan, Atlético Madrid, Manchester City, Inter Milan and Arsenal.

Lionel Messi, currently tipped to receive the award, is no stranger to Socios.com. As part of his move from FC Barcelona to PSG, the French team said a portion of the football star’s “welcome package” included the $PSG Fan Token, which was launched with Socios.com.

“A perfect combination”

Alexandre Dreyfus, founder and CEO of Socios.com, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the Ballon d’Or, the most prestigious individual awards ceremony in football, and to be part of a ceremony that has become one of the most anticipated events in the sports calendar.

“Socios.com was created to bring fans closer than ever to their heroes, and the Ballon d’Or is the event that gathers football’s biggest stars, so it’s a perfect combination.”
