The Walt Disney Company, also known as Disney, was founded in 1923 by brothers Walt and Roy Disney.
Disney was one of the pioneers of American animation and in almost 100 years has grown into the world’s largest multinational mass media and entertainment company.
Disney’s global headquarters is based at the Walt Disney Studios complex in Burbank, California.
The company also operated under the names The Walt Disney Studio and Walt Disney Productions before it became The Walt Disney Company in 1986.

The company was a leader in the American animation industry before it diversified into other areas of entertainment and film and television making.
During the 1980s, Disney slowly moved its focus away from purely family entertainment. It owns The Walt Disney Studios which includes Walt Disney Pictures, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures.
